The Toshiba D-VR660 VCR is an enticing option for individuals who want to record their favorite TV shows or movies on VHS tapes while also having the capability to play DVDs and connect the device to their HDTV through HDMI. Let's weigh the pros and cons of this versatile VCR:

Pros:

2. HDMI Connection: This feature enables you to connect the VCR to an HDTV for improved display quality.

3. Built-in DiSEqC Satellite System Support: This feature allows for directly controlling and receiving signals from up to 16 satellite dishes with a single off-air antenna.

4. SD/SDHC/SDXC Card Slot: Recordings can be saved onto removable SD cards for easier backup and sharing.

5. USB Input: Connect a USB mass storage device to transfer recordings to your computer or other digital devices.

6. Programmable Timer: You can set the timer to record programs if you're unable to do so manually.

7. Easy-to-Use Interface: The intuitive menu system makes it simple to operate the VCR.

Cons:

1. HDMI Resolution Limitations: Although HDMI is supported, the highest supported resolution is 480p, which may not provide the best viewing experience for modern TVs.

2. Limited Connection Ports: The VCR lacks additional HDMI input or output ports, which might limit its versatility.

3. Audio and Video Sync Issues: Some users have reported minor audio/video sync issues with recordings from live TV.

4. supports CRT and non-HDTV screen types only: HDMI connection may create issues if attempting to connect it to HDTVs with newer technologies.

5. Cost: Compared to other VCR models, the Toshiba D-VR660 may have a slightly higher cost due to its added features (HDMI, Built-in DiSEqC Satellite System Support).

Conclusion:

The Toshiba D-VR660 VCR is an excellent investment for individuals who still have a collection of VHS tapes and want to upgrade their experience by connecting their VCR to an HDTV via HDMI. Its compatibility with VHS and DVDs, DISEqC Satellite System, and its SD and USB card slots make it a versatile device for recording and archiving content. However, users should be aware of the HDMI resolution limitations and audio/video sync issues along with the relatively higher cost when considering their purchase.

Recommendation:

If you're looking for a VCR with the latest technology, the Toshiba D-VR660 VCR is a solid choice. Given its compatibility with both VHS and DVD formats, as well as the HDMI capability, it caters to a variety of usage scenarios. If your priority is higher resolution or better audio sync for your recordings, it may be worth considering alternative VCRs that support those features, but note they may come at a higher cost. Ultimately, your final decision comes down to how much value you place on having HDMI connectivity and the additional features mentioned.
