The Sony SVO-9600 Pro is a professional-grade S-VHS video cassette recorder (VCR) that is designed for video editing and post-production applications. It offers several advantages and disadvantages, depending on your specific needs and requirements. Here are some pros and cons of buying a Sony SVO-9600 Pro:
Pros:1. High-quality recording and playback: The Sony SVO-9600 Pro is capable of recording and playing back S-VHS tapes with exceptional video and audio quality. It is ideal for professionals who require high-definition video for their projects.
2. Timebase corrector: The VCR includes a timebase corrector, which ensures that the video signal is stable and free from wobble or instability, resulting in better picture and sync stability during editing.
3. Dual-system recording: The Sony SVO-9600 Pro allows for dual-system recording, which means you can record audio from an external source or from the built-in microphone while recording video. This feature is essential for video production workflows that require proper synchronization of audio and video.
4. Color correction: The VCR provides advanced color correction controls, allowing you to make adjustments to the color balance, hue, saturation, and brightness levels to match footage from different sources or to achieve a specific look.
5. Edit-decision list (EDL) output: The Sony SVO-9600 Pro can generate an edit decision list (EDL), which makes it easy to transfer edited clips to a non-linear editing system for further refinement and finishing.
Cons:1. Expensive: The Sony SVO-9600 Pro is a high-end VCR, and its price tag reflects its professional capabilities. It may not be an affordable option for hobbyists or those working on a limited budget.
2. Limited connectivity: Although it has a few input and output options (composite video, S-video, and RCA audio), it lacks advanced connectivity features, such as HDMI or USB, which might be desirable for some users.
3. Analog format: As an S-VHS VCR, the device uses an analog format. While this delivers high-quality video and sound, it may not be as future-proof as digital formats, and it may become less relevant in the context of increasingly digital media production workflows.
Conclusion:The Sony SVO-9600 Pro is a powerful, high-end S-VHS video cassette recorder designed for professional video editing and post-production applications. It offers excellent video and audio quality, timebase correction, dual-system recording, color correction, and edit decision list output. However, its price tag may be a barrier for some, and it lacks advanced connectivity features and uses an analog format that may become less relevant over time. Ultimately, the decision to invest in this device depends on your specific needs, budget, and the nature of your video projects. If high-quality S-VHS is essential for your workflow, the Sony SVO-9600 Pro is an excellent choice. Otherwise, it may be worth considering alternative, more cost-effective options that provide more modern connectivity and digital formats.

If it isn pictured or mentioned you can assume is not part of the sale. I got into the Menu and toggled through displays, perhaps something there need to be changed. I did not try it withes video. Which seems quite odd to me, maybe its had a board removed or something.
Check back often. Sony SVO-9600 Pro Editing S-VHS Video Cassette Recorder, For sale a Recorder as pictured. The basic transport features all work but I couldn coax a bit of color out the thing. It plays great, if you like Black and White.
The screen shots you see are from a composite video output and its the same whether cable is connected to Video Out or Monitor. Possibly user error but opening it up the interior looks a little sparse so maybe board has been scavenged. If the item being sold here requires a standard modular computer AC cord I no longer ship those automatically on theory that everyone has box full of them already.
